Turning industrial robots into CNC-controlled machining systems

We turn conventional industrial robots into independently programmable, CNC-controlled machining systems. Via Siemens Sinumerik ONE “Run MyRobot”, every drive and every axis is guided directly — programmed in G-code, repeatable and CE-compliant. Engineered, built and in daily use at our 3 production sites on Lake Constance.

What is a CNC robot cell?

A large working envelope. Precise CNC machining

A CNC robot cell is a guarded manufacturing unit in which an industrial robot is not “taught” in the classic way, but path-controlled via a CNC control system. The cell is programmed like a machine tool using G-code — either directly on the control or entirely offline in the digital twin.

This resolves an old trade-off: robots are flexible and far-reaching, classic CNC machines are precise and repeatable. In our modular system, both worlds come together.

Core idea: robots become highly flexible machining solutions that any skilled worker with CNC knowledge can program — without manufacturer-specific robot training.

Advantages

Why a CNC control makes the difference

  • Absolute accuracy and path fidelity. The Sinumerik ONE controls every drive individually. This produces more accurate paths and smoother motion than pure robot interpolation.
  • Familiar programming. Operation via G-code instead of manufacturer-specific robot logic. If you know CNC, you can produce.
  • Economical from batch size 1. Fast changeovers via a program change instead of laborious re-teaching.
  • Scalable. Standalone cell or linked line — both from the same modular system.
  • Reproducible & documented. Processes are traceable and can be evaluated for CE documentation.
Real-time data

Production data capture: simulation and the real robot cell in one system

With the direct connection between the digital twin, robot control and real system, production data becomes visible and analysable live. Movements, axis values, process times and machine states can be monitored in real time and compared with the simulation.

This allows cycle times to be analysed precisely, processes to be optimised and deviations to be detected early. The system is not only planned virtually but also improved on a data basis during operation. This reduces downtime, simplifies troubleshooting and creates a solid basis for process optimisation, quality assurance and future automation steps.

Project workflow

From manufacturing task to a running cell

Understand the manufacturing task

We analyse the component, process, quantities and interfaces to your existing production — always with the perspective of an in-house manufacturer.

Concept & digital twin

Based on your layout, a 3D visualisation of the cell is created. Processes are simulated and programmed offline before any steel is moved.

Risk assessment & engineering

The safety concept, functional safety and mechanics are designed in parallel. CE compliance is considered from the outset.

Build & commissioning

Manufacturing in Germany, in-house testing and on-site commissioning at your premises, including training for your staff.

Operation & ongoing development

Real-time production data capture, support and modernisation so the cell grows with new tasks.

Hands-on experience from our own production

We don't just develop robot cells,
we operate them too

Our technologies run every day in the production plants of our parent company, Maucher Formenbau GmbH & Co KG. Components for premium brands such as AMG, Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche and Rolls-Royce are made on these systems. This continuous feedback has fed directly into every new cell for years.

Frequently asked questions

CNC robot cells in detail

A guarded manufacturing unit in which an industrial robot is path-controlled via a CNC control such as Sinumerik. The cell is programmed like a machine tool using G-code and combines the reach of a robot with the repeatability of a CNC machine.
The CNC accesses every drive and every axis directly. This produces more precise paths, more consistent speeds and familiar programming. Staff with CNC knowledge can operate the cell — economically viable from batch size 1.
